Ice Trap Bracelet
925 Sterling Silver·22.8g
$490.00 AUD
The Piece
The Ice Trap Bracelet is a run of polished round links, closed by a clasp set with cubic zirconia. It weighs 22.8 grams in solid 925 sterling silver, made at 8.25 inches only. The stones sit on the clasp face alone, and everything else is plain silver.
At 21cm it wears close, which keeps the clasp where you put it. The Frosted Grid Bracelet at 18cm and the Nocturne Lock Bracelet at 23cm sit either side of it.
A workshop in Turkey made this bracelet. It reached Melbourne through a wholesaler in Rajasthan. It carries the maker's 925 stamp and was torch-tested by hand before finishing.
The clasp
Every stone on this bracelet is in one place. A rectangular box clasp carries them across its face, packed in rows, so the clasp reads as a block of light against a plain chain. Worn with the clasp turned up it is the only thing anyone sees. Turned under, it reads as a plain silver chain and nothing more.
Cubic zirconia is a synthetic stone. It is harder than glass, 8 on the Mohs scale against about 5.5, and it is not diamond. It scratches and clouds with wear, and a clasp takes more knocks than the rest of a bracelet, so this is the part that shows its age first.
Fit
One size, 8.25 inches, which is 21cm end to end with the clasp closed. It wears close on a wrist of 7 to 7.5 inches.
Measure before you buy. Wrap a soft tape measure or a strip of paper around your wrist just below the bone and read the number where it meets. A 21cm bracelet on an 18cm wrist leaves 3cm, which is enough to move without turning over.
There is no second length. If your wrist measures over 19cm this will sit tight, and the Nocturne Lock Bracelet at 23cm is the longer one.
The silver
Solid 925 sterling silver, 92.5 per cent silver with 7.5 per cent alloy. The 925 mark is stamped by the maker, and the piece was torch-tested by hand in Melbourne before finishing.
The bracelet carries an anti-tarnish finish, so it holds its brightness far longer than bare sterling. That finish is not permanent. Once it wears, the 925 underneath darkens the way sterling does, first inside the links and around the stone seats where a cloth reaches last. Routine care is a soft dry cloth, with a dry brush across the clasp. Keep a polishing cloth for after the finish has worn, because it is abrasive and lifts the finish with the tarnish. Plated jewellery is a different thing entirely: its surface wears through to base metal and does not come back. The Is It Real page covers how to tell the two apart.

Care
Every piece carries an anti-tarnish finish, so it holds its brightness far longer than bare sterling.
- Wipe with a soft dry cloth after wearing
- Keep away from perfume, sunscreen, chlorine and saltwater
- Store in the velvet box, away from other pieces, so nothing scratches
- Take it off before the shower, the pool and the gym
The finish is not permanent. It wears with time and contact, and the solid 925 underneath then darkens the way sterling does. Save the silver polishing cloth for that stage. Used routinely, it is abrasive enough to lift the finish along with the tarnish.
